New Mexico Orthopaedics Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship

Fellowship Faculty

A. John Kiburz IV, M.D.

I have always been drawn to working in medicine because of the chance doctors have to make a real difference in the lives of their patients. I am a board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in sports medicine, who joined New Mexico Orthopaedics in 2009. During my residency, I was proud to have served as Chief Resident at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, where I coordinated physician coverage for high school and collegiate athletics to be provided by myself and my peers. I am well aware that our culture places significant value on recreational activity, lifestyle and athletics. Accordingly, I am extremely passionate about preserving or restoring the ability to participate in these activities—for my patients, for my community and for my own family. I am especially drawn to orthopaedics because many of the lifestyle-limiting injuries encountered in this field can be successfully treated. In addition, I firmly believe that my fellowship training in sports medicine has equipped me with the latest techniques to provide my patients with the most advanced treatment options to get them back to their desired level of activity. I work to empower each of my patients to become an active participant in his own recovery and to focus our efforts on personalized goals and aspirations for resuming an active lifestyle. I reach out to the community through a number of volunteering efforts, such as working with clinics and hospitals that care for the less fortunate, as well as donating my time and knowledge to local youth by providing medical coverage for sporting events and day camps. I also enjoy participating in all that the outdoors has to offer, especially marathon running, golf, football, baseball, hiking and traveling. A. John Kiburz IV, M.D.
